I tried ebooks - a friend had one of those first generation devices. Honestly? It's hard to read on the screen. May be just me though!
Do you have the iphone? There is a Kindle application you can try first. I agree with PPG. I find the screen hard to read on. And I like the feel of a BOOK in my hand.
I have a sony e-reader! cheaper than a kindle. I got mine off of ebay for about $200, the most I've ever spent on any electronic but I love it, especially when I travel. One day when the kindles are less than $300 I will get one.
There is nothing like holding and smelling a brand new book though.
